From code to melody
Instead of the plain on-off beep of standard Morse, this generator gives each element a real pitch. In one mode, dots and dashes ring at different notes a fifth apart; in another, each successive letter steps up through the scale so longer messages climb like a little riff. The rhythm is true Morse timing, one unit per eighth note: dashes hold three times as long as dots, so the melody still decodes by ear.
Pentatonic scales tend to sound pleasant no matter the message, which makes them a safe starting point. Add the optional backing click for a steady pulse. All audio is synthesized in your browser with the Web Audio API and rendered offline for the download, so nothing is uploaded.
Tips
- Try a name in C major pentatonic for an instant, cheerful motif.
- Lower the tempo to let longer messages breathe.
- Use the "step up the scale" mode for melodic, song-like results.
- The rhythm is real Morse: each dot is an eighth note, each dash three, with rests of one, three and seven eighths between elements, letters and words. Anyone who reads Morse by ear can read the tune.
