How it works
Your text is turned into the same timeline the translator plays, and the light follows it frame by frame. The torch only gets a new setting when the light changes, so dots and dashes keep their lengths.
Screen or torch
- Screen: works everywhere. You get a warning first, then the screen goes full screen and flashes white and black. It is held to 7 WPM (under 3 flashes a second) for photosensitive viewers. Leaving full screen stops it.
- Torch: on most Android phones in Chrome, up to 15 WPM. The camera is asked for once, when you tap Use the torch, and kept for later messages until you leave the page.
- iPhone and iPad don’t let websites control the torch, so there the screen is used.
- If your system asks for reduced motion, the screen strobe is off and the pattern is shown to flash by hand.
- Pair it with the camera decoder on another device to read it back.
