Use it on a website
Download the WOFF, put it next to your stylesheet and add:
@font-face {
font-family: "Morse Dot Dash";
src: url("morse-dot-dash-regular.woff") format("woff");
font-weight: 400;
font-display: swap;
}
.morse {
font-family: "Morse Dot Dash", sans-serif;
font-weight: 400;
}How to use
Type your text, or tap an example.
Pick a style: Dot dash, Beads or Bars. Each one shows your words.
Choose a weight, and a gap or a slash between words.
Press Download TTF and install the file: on Windows, right-click it and choose Install; on a Mac, double-click it and choose Install in Font Book.
Pick the font in your app and type as usual. Or save your text as an SVG or PNG, or copy it as text.
What it does
Free Morse code fonts you can try with your own words before you download, made in your browser.
- Type normallyLetters, digits and punctuation turn into their Morse code as you type. Capitals and small letters look the same, and there are no slashes or special keys to learn.
- Three styles, three weightsDot dash, Beads (round and long beads on a thread) and Bars, each in Light, Regular and Bold, with a gap or a slash between words: 18 fonts.
- The real proportionsA dash is three dots long, and letters and words are spaced 3 and 7 units apart, as the ITU standard sets them.
- TTF and WOFFDownload the Morse code font as TTF for Word, Canva and Cricut Design Space, or WOFF for a website. Both are free under the SIL Open Font License.
- SVG and PNGSave your text as a picture drawn with the font’s own shapes: an SVG to cut or engrave, or a PNG for apps that can’t add fonts.
- Copy and pasteA Morse code text generator too: copy your text as dots and dashes, as symbols (· —) or in bold (• ▬) for a message or a bio.
How it works
The proportions
ITU-R M.1677-1 sets the timing of International Morse code: a dot is one unit and a dash three; the gaps are one unit inside a letter, three between letters and seven between words. The fonts draw those units as length. One unit is a fifth of the em, so a Regular dot at 12 pt is 2.4 pt across. Each letter carries half a letter gap on each side, so two letters sit 3 units apart, and the space adds 4 more for the 7-unit word gap.
The files
Your browser builds each font from the site’s Morse table: 68 drawings for 260 characters, in TrueType outlines. The WOFF holds the same tables, compressed for the web. Each file carries its name, version and the Open Font License notice, and the same choices always give the same file. The SVG and PNG are drawn with the same outlines, so the picture matches the font.
Using it in your apps
- Word on Windows: right-click the TTF and choose Install. Restart Word if the font isn’t listed.
- Mac: double-click the TTF and choose Install in Font Book. Pages, Keynote and Word list it after that.
- Canva: uploading fonts needs Canva Pro, Teams, Business, Education or Nonprofits. Canva takes TTF and WOFF. On Canva Free, add the PNG as an image.
- Cricut Design Space: install the TTF on your computer, then choose the System filter in the font list. Or upload the SVG as an image.
- Google Docs and messages: Google Docs can’t add a downloaded font, and a message sends the text, not the font. Paste the copy-and-paste text or the PNG instead.
Examples
What the font draws for a few words, and how wide each one sets:
| Text | Morse code | Width |
|---|---|---|
| SOS | ... --- ... | 30 units, 6 em |
| I love you | .. / .-.. --- ...- . / -.-- --- ..- | 96 units, 19.2 em |
| Mom | -- --- -- | 34 units, 6.8 em |
| 2026 | ..--- ----- ..--- -.... | 72 units, 14.4 em |
| Hello! | .... . .-.. .-.. --- -.-.-- | 74 units, 14.8 em |
Check one by hand: SOS is S (5 units), O (11) and S (5), with two 3-unit letter gaps: 27 units, plus half a letter gap at each end: 30 units, 6 em. At 40 px that is 240 px wide.
SOS in the three styles, Regular:
- Dot dash
- Beads
- Bars
Frequently asked questions
About the Morse code font
Yes. The fonts on this page draw each letter, digit and punctuation mark that has a Morse code as its dots and dashes, so you type normal words and see Morse. There are three styles in three weights, free to download as TTF or WOFF under the SIL Open Font License.
Install the TTF (on Windows, right-click the file and choose Install), restart Word if the font isn't listed, then pick Morse Dot Dash, Morse Beads or Morse Bars and type as usual. Word's curly quotes work too. To keep the letters readable, choose Slash between words.
Not as a font: Google Docs only offers the fonts in its own library and can't add a downloaded file. Paste the copy-and-paste text instead, or save your words as a PNG and insert it as an image.
Yes. The SIL Open Font License lets you use the fonts for anything, including products you sell, cut or engrave; you just can't sell the font files by themselves. For Cricut Design Space, install the TTF, then pick it under System fonts. For Beads, Weld the letters to cut one piece.
Type your words here and copy them under Copy and paste: as dots and dashes (... --- ...), symbols (··· ——— ···) or bold (••• ▬▬▬ •••). A message sends the text, not your font, but this text pastes into any message, bio or comment.
.. / .-.. --- ...- . / -.-- --- ..-: I, then LOVE, then YOU, with a slash between the words. In the font, type I love you and the gaps come out right on their own. See I love you in Morse code for how to tap, flash and play it.
Most people mean a monospaced font such as Courier New or Consolas, where every character is the same width, as in programming. If you want text that looks like a secret code, a Morse code font like the ones here turns each letter into dots and dashes.
Trust and limits
The fonts, pictures and text are made in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded. The fonts are free under the SIL Open Font License 1.1: use them for anything, including work you sell, and share them; only selling the font files on their own is not allowed.
They draw International Morse only: no American Morse, Wabun or other scripts, and no prosigns (type SK and it comes out as two letters). Letters, digits and most signs follow ITU-R M.1677-1; ! & ; _ $ and the accented letters other than É use common codes the standard doesn’t list. Characters without a code, such as # or emoji, are left to your app’s usual font. The files are TTF and WOFF; a TTF installs wherever an OTF would.
