Keep the light, read the ships
- A ship flashes its name with its lamp, over and over.
- Read the light and type the name before it reaches the rocks.
- The sooner you read it, the more points. Lose three ships and the night is over.
How to play
- Watch the ship's lamp: a short flash is a dot, a long one a dash.
- Type the ship's name and press Signal. The sooner, the more points.
- A ship that reaches the rocks is lost; three lost and the night is over.
Tips
Names are three or four letters. Watch the whole name repeat once before you guess.
Frequently asked questions
About the lighthouse keeper
The lamp is small and flashes no faster than the screen-safe speed used across the site (under three flashes a second). With reduced motion turned on in your system, the name is shown as dots and dashes instead.
Ships and lighthouses really did signal with lamps, and reading light trains your eye for rhythm the same way listening trains your ear.
